Goby Spirits Mezcal Supplier
Goby Spirits is an importer and distributor of Mexican spirits in France and Europe. Based in Bordeaux, the company originated from the partnership between Anna and Thibault, sister and brother, who fell in love with mezcal, Mexico’s ancestral spirit.
They travelled to discover the Mexican state of Oaxaca and met the Hernandez family, who has been producing El Rey Zapoteco mezcal since 1960. They immediately felt a strong connection with this family of producers and that would mark the official start of their collaboration in 2015. Five years later, Goby Spirits has expanded its portfolio and now collaborates with two other brands: Los Javis and Real Minero. Driven by their love of Mexican products and their desire to offer their clientele a broader range of products, the company is now growing and wants to expand its array of spirits.
Goby Spirits work with mezcal producers who manage the entire manufacturing process, from seeding to bottling; this ensures superior quality and consistency for our spirits. Producers are respectful of their ecosystem and they make sure that the different varieties of agaves are bred in the best conditions. For generations they have been preserving a traditional craftsmanship within the family. Goby spirits's mission is to relay this craftsmanship as an importer/distributor in France and as an exporter to the rest of Europe. To date, we have expanded El Rey Zapoteco to France, Spain, Italy, Hungary, Norway, the United Kingdom and Germany.
Mezcal: a family affair
The “bon vivant”
In addition to his devotion to mezcal, Thibault, who is now managing the company, is also guiding other companies as a management accountant. In 2015, a yearning for freedom and independence and a growing passion for this ancestral spirit pushed him to set his office job aside.
“Each plant reveals different flavours, which can be earthy, herbal and more or less smoky. I immediately felt a strong connection with El Rey Zapoteco. Thanks to Marcelo, one of their brand ambassadors, we had the opportunity to meet the producers and learn about their craftsmanship. Our collaboration immediately seemed like it was meant to be.”
The French girl with a Mexican heart
Anna settled in Mexico in 2013 after graduating from the university. She discovered mezcal while working in a Mexican bar. She is now a brand ambassador in Latin-America for a company specialized in wines, so she spends most of her time on the road between Mexico and South-America.
